Fuel line quick disconnect

I have a 1995/6 Force 70. The fuel line from the main 20 gal. tank comes through the battery compartment, through the primer bulb and directly to the engine fuel pump via a hole in the engine cover. While the engine was being serviced, I had them install a Mercury quick disconnect between the primer bulb and the engine cover. That way I could disconnect the fuel and run the engine until dry.

My problem is that the mating pair don't seem to want to mate properly. The male doesn't want to enter the female far enough for the bayonet ears to even start to enter the slots. The service tech said that normally the female is attached to the engine making it more stable to receive the male. I don't want to do any damage to either ends but if it is forced together then it will be equally difficult to separate.

I tried lubricating the rubber gasket but that doesn't help.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The dealer installed a Mercury QD fitting? is it the aluminum kind?

They have a Strong spring and require a considerable amount of force to depress the internal spring.

Push the ends together and look to see if the pin and slot are in alignment with one an other before trying to twist to the locking position.

Fir about 25 bucks, buy a Force/Chrysler quick disconnect male and female. You will need a brass female barbed fitting for the male part as it is threaded. Much easier to connect and disconnect.

Re: Fuel line quick disconnect

Thank you all for your replies. After lubricating the rubber bushing on Sunday, I contacted the service department to see if the mechanic had actually had the two part together. I was told that they had been together but was a firm fit because one of the two sides is usually mounted on the motor. I went out on Tuesday and once again attempted to get them together. I was lucky this time, as they slide together with just a little encouragement. It is possible that the bushing was dry and attempting to rotate, blocking the insertion.

they are hard to get together, they have seals in them to keep it from leaking.
