When I install my new fuel pump and fittings, what sealant should I use of the brass fittings, if any?

I use Loc-tite with teflon. It comes in a small tube.Flare fittings are not meant to have sealer, just the pipe thread fittings.

DHP

If you are dead set on using a sealant, then use permatex avaition sealant. It comes in a small container shaped like a baby food jar and has an applicator brush connected to the cap.It is used for exactly what you want.

Never had a problem.Technically a pipe thread is self sealing.

DHP

DO NOT USE TEFLON TAPE!
Only use TEFLON sealant... like the Loctite.
Your local LOWES or HOME DEPOT also have it in the plumbing department.

A pro in the hydraulic hose business recently told me that any excess TEFLON sealant will mix in with the oil or fuel and cause no harm.

Got it.. No tape, no silicone.

I'll get either the Aviation Permatex or LocTite with teflon.

Thanks!

Wrorg on the tape wrap. White is a no-no, but YELLOW is for gas, propane, etc.
Thing here is, you should NEVER need to seal any gas line with anything but the fitting itself.

Still Crazy...

The reason for no tape...
1) Tape allows for overtightening. Fuel line connections usually end up in a casting (fuel pump, filter, carb) which are easily cracked. Stress cracks can happen immediately or over time.

2)One tends to use too much tape, contributing to #1, but also creating the possibility of shredding at the end. Shredding can cause excess tape to end up in your fuel or hydraulic fluids and potentially create a blockage somewhere.

Save the tape for what it's designed for... plastic to plastic or plastic to metal threaded connections.
