Fuel line squeeze bulb, flood engine ??

I have a 1991 55 HP Yamaha 2 stroke. I bought the boat a month ago and haven't had it on the water yet. I've started it twice on muffs. I have noticed that the squeeze bulb on the fuel line does not get hard (solid). It is always a little soft, even when OB is running. Will I flood the engine if I squeeze it too much while trying to start the OB?
Thanks.

(I haven't had it on the water yet. But the way the rain keeps coming down it may be floating soon. :D )

As long as your float needles shut off each carb fuel inlet valve, then it's not going to flood the motor. It's just like that float rig in the back of your toilet...check it out! Good Luck!

Leak in the fuel pump could be a problem or the needles and seats in the carbs are not seating properly.

Primer bulb is just that , as way to prime the fuel system before trying to start the motor. The fuel pump sucks fuel through the lines as the motor turns and the bulb will not stay firm, but you should be able to make it firm before you try turning the motor over. If it will not the see what is leaking

I am recommending everyone get fuel diaphram kit if your motor is 10 years old. Or at least check the 3 screws and 2 10mm bolts tighten them down but dont go crazy! Just changed mine out and now bulb gets rock hard. Option is to replace whole thing $40 or research for kit that will work. I bought older 1990s kit for my 2000 seems to fit fine, $5 bucks.
