I have a 1981 115 hp Evinrude outboard motor. The motor seems to run good. The problem I am having is at full throttle. When at full throttle my gas line and bulb collapse and within a few minutes my motor stalls. If I stay back and pump the bulb I can keep the motor running a little longer. as long as I stay at 3/4 speed the motor runs fine. I was told by a marine mechanic that there is a ball in my tank that keeps gas from spewing out in case of a fire and that it could be sticking and causing my problem. If this is the case then where is this ball. Could this be a carburator problem? A Fuel Filter Problem? A fuel pump problem? Please help Me figure this out.

Re: Fuel Line Trouble

Welcome!!

I wouldnt think its a bad fuel pump if it has enough suction to suck the bulb closed. Most likely that ball the guy was talking about is the culprit. That or a clogged vent.

The anti-siphon valve is in the fitting screwed into your tank outlet. Just remove the hose and unscrew the fitting. You can knock the ball and spring out or just buy a new one.

Like I mentioned, check the vent too.

Re: Fuel Line Trouble

Thank you for your help. I would like to know if you are talking about the vent for the gas tank that is located on the back of my boat next to my gas cap. Also, Where can I pick up a new anti-syphon fitting.

djmomentum2003,

Before you go taking anything apart, try running the engine with the fuel filler cap loose. That will tell you if you have a vent problem or an anti siphon valve problem.

Do you have a 6gal tank or internal? If it's internal check the vent hose, if it's 6gal just loosen the cap as stated before.

Why waste time? The season will be over before you know it. Get a new six gallon tank and fuel line and run the motor. You can eliminate the other possible problem questions and have fun doing it.

Re: Fuel Line Trouble

I have an internal tank and I believe it is 12 gal. I would like to keep from buying a new tank if possible. If I do have a problem with my vent hose what would be a tell tail sign. Would the hose be cpllapsed, have a hole, or be clogged from inside?

djmomentum2003,

Yes, a clogged vent line will collapse the fuel hose/bulb.

Read my post above.
