Fuel Line Water Separator

I've read so many opinions on this. Just trying to get a definitive answer. I have a 15' fishing boat with 30HP Mariner outboard and 6gal. portable tank.
Question I have is do I need a water separator filter? I purchased the Attwater fuel line water seperator, but have not installed it until I know if I really need to do so. I use fuel stabilizer with every fill up, but don't use the boat very many times during the year, in fact maybe 2 or 3 times all year, with months between those times. Should I dump the fuel between those months to be sure of water not developing?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated whether I need this setup or not. Thanks very much in advance!

I have one on every boat I own.. I use the Racor with a drain at the bottom of clear bowl to drain off water...Ethanol will destroy your motor if you don't catch the water.....

I don't think you need one. They are normally used with built in tanks. Won't hurt anything though. If not over 6 months old I would keep using the fuel also since you use stab at every fill up. Might even go longer, but not much.

I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't install that Attwood Fuel/Water Separator....it filters better than the motor-mounted "filter/screen" and separates out the water. With your fuel Stabilizer like Stabil or Seafoam added to your gas, you shouldn't have to dump it for several months lay-up. Still not a bad idea to drain the gas out of the carb float chamber before lay-up...most carbs have a small screw/bolt drain plug on the bottom/side of float chamber for draining....put a shop towel underneath when removing to catch the fuel And that little drain screw! Good Luck!;)
