I have a 1976 (I think) Clinton 5hp outboard engine and need to know the correct fuel mixture. mdl K5003108C, s/n 1056302, type # XTV 52250.

Re: Fuel Mixture

I get '74 or '75 for your outboard.
Clinton ID
The fuel mix for that engine is 42:1.
Since your engine is air cooled, use TC (Chainsaw, weedeater) rather than TCW (outboard) oil.

Re: Fuel Mixture

Clintons are air cooled, Rude, so you need to use chainsaw or weedwhacker oil, not outboard oil.

Some air cooled engines use a 24:1 mix, but I think the Clintons want 16:1.

Good luck. :)

Re: Fuel Mixture

:)
I got the mixture information for his engine from NorthCoast Oil, which I trust mostly because of the quantity of Clinton engine mixture entries. They do seem agree with other information I have though.
The similairity between our descriptions of what type of oil to use are down right spooky! Guess I've heard it somewhere else before...
Rude - if in doubt though, err on the side of caution. Too much oil is much better then too little. :D

Re: Fuel Mixture

Paul and JB, thanks for the quik response and links to Clinton Motors and NorthCoast Oil. I am saving them both for future use. The boat and motor have been in my parents garage for over 20 years. Never been used. I recently moved home from abroad and decided to pull them out and put them to use. I got the engine home and on a stand, jury rigged a fuel line, clean the spark plug, pulled it over about 10 times with no results. Gave it a tiny, tiny blast of either, waited a few seconds and she started right up. Runs great. The fuel I used was my weedwacker mix. Thanks and happy boating/fishing to you both.
