1955 mark 55E mercury outboard. I have just redone external restoration. I am ready to start and run this motor. I would like to use Stihl oil for the gas mixture. Is this a good oil and should I use a 50:1 mixture. I have owned since 1963 and have not run it for 15 years. Should I do anything to be safe. Last tune-up was 15 years ago before I stored it. Thanks for any advice. Motor had previously little use. Thanks, John

TCW3 oil is for Water Cooled engines and works best with their engine running temps.

You could use 50:1, but most folks I know are using 25:1 or 40:1 to give the old girl a little extra lubrication.

The Stihl oil is for air cooled engines that run a lot hotter. That oil will not burn off properly in a cool running outboard motor.

Is the water pump still functional?
