Can anyone tell me what the fuel would look and smell, if it was pre-mixed?
Thanks.

Re: Fuel oil mix

Dont know that ur gonna be able to smell it. As far as a visual? some oil is brown, some blue. some green, [in my experience] Maybe youi can figure it out by putting unmixed gas in a clear container and whatever you have that u r wondering about in another clear container and comparing em side by side. If in doubt , and you cant tell, I, would assume its unmixed and would add oil b4 I put it in a 2 stroke Too much oil might foul ur plugs quicker. too little and you toast ur engine.

Re: Fuel oil mix

Good idea, Thank you for your help.
This fuel is already in one tank. just bought boat, both tanks were full, ran one tank half gone, then refueled ran motor and started having problems, I started troubleshooting, found electric oil pump at remote oil tank unplugged, sludge and water in both oil tanks and air in delivery hoses, no strainers, sludge in oil pump. So I am thinking this guy was hopefully putting in premixed!
No bell or whistles sounded while running motor.

Re: Fuel oil mix

dunno how big ur boat or tanks are, but sounds like you might be better off getting all the gas and oil out, cleaning everything and starting fresh. Instead of trying to force ur engine to ingest who knows what.

Re: Fuel oil mix

Yes, that is what I was planning on doing, but knowing that there was premixed in there would be less chance of motor damage. I did run motor on the tank that I refueled with half unmixed fuel. (barely ran and for short time) I already flushed both oil tanks, lines, and oil pump at motor sat in sonic cleaner all night. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Fuel oil mix

I am thinking it had to be premixed, I ran that boat on the water and used a half tank and did not burn it up. What do you think?

Re: Fuel oil mix

Probely is mixed, but do u know how old the fuel is ? Maybe u got old crap stale fuel causing your running probs. U might try filling a 5 gal [or whatever ] gas can w fresh , mixed gas and run it directly to ur carb and c how it runs. Could help u determine if bad fuel is your prob. IMO You have too much to lose by running who knows what thru ur engine.

Re: Fuel oil mix

Thank you, I will do that before I do anything else. I have already changed, both fuel pumps, fuel filter, plugs, leak down test was ok, installed a fuel water separator. Motor is a P200TLRW V Max 200.
Thanks again.

Re: Fuel oil mix

and remember, the oiling system and the fuel system are completely seperate systems.
myself I would also drain the engine oil tanks and remove the screens and check for debris there too.
ALWAYS use a new screen to tank seal.
ya should have gotten an alarm, unless he cut out the precision blend oiling system.

Re: Fuel oil mix

Yes, I pulled both oil tanks and they were full of oil and a white Grey sludge in the bottom of both. oil pump was the same when i opened it up. I sonic cleaned it, but I decided to order a new one along with all new oil, fuel screens. I cleaned carbs and they were clean. Going to drain and clean fuel tanks, but don't know what to do with 45 gal. of fuel?
There was no sound from alarm. probable disconnected along with the emergency kill switch that clips to your side.
Thank you for your help.

I dont think he would know, or tell me the truth, due to all the problems that I have found with this boat, and it was to be in perfect shape. I am in Ca. he is in AZ. had my nephew look at it and said it looked good. It looks great! If it only ran as it looked.
