I just bought a 4 horse johnson and have no book on it. Based on a picture I saw, I believe it is about a 1968 model. What is the fuel/oil mixture and how can I convert the model / serial number to the year of production?

I also have a 7 1/2 horse Murcury (mid 70s model) and have the same age and fuel questions for it.

thanks...

Re: fuel/oil mixture -- motor age

All Johnson/Evinrude engines were officially on a 50:1 gas/oil mixture as of 1964.

Mid 70's mercury should also be 50:1. Use a good TCW3 rated oil.
