I have just purchased a 2 stroke, 3 cylinder, 60hp Mariner serial number 9537575, it is approx 1989 and is oil injected. I will be premixing rather than using the oil injection as I dont wish to risk any problems with the oil possibly not being injected. The previous owner stated that the mixture ratio he used was 25:1, could anyone confirm that this is the correct mixture as running with water muffs the engine is pretty smokey, could the mixture have this affect? Should I be using the oil injection instead - would it have an alarm if there was a problem? You may have gathered I dont know a great deal about boat engines so help would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Re: Fuel/Oil mixture ratio

The correct ratio for this engine is 50:1. A mixture of 25:1 can create a lean fuel condition and oil foul the spark plugs. If this unit has the old Auto-Blend system, don't rely on it as parts are not available.

Thanks dilligaf

Would running on 25:1 also have caused the engine to run smokier than normal?

Yes. Twice as much as 50:1.
