Is there any way to determine the fuel/oil ratio of an ALREADY mixed tank of fuel...maybe you think you didn't put in enough oil, or too much oil...is there a way to test the ratio..

Short of sending it to a lab for analysis, I don't think so.

Sure there is. You run your motor with it. If it blows up, then you did't have enough oil in it. ;):D:eek:

Thanks tx...if you were joking, you should have inserted an LOL in there...however, im not that stupid to use my motor as a test gauge...

Sending it to a lab would be the only way that I know of. Safest bet is to start over with properly mixed fuel. Probably be costly to send off for analysis.

When in doubt, add the correct amount of oil. The engine will not be hurt with double oil.

I have a method that I use all the time: A tank does not get gas unless oil has been added--no exceptions. That way, when I go back a month later, I don't need to remember. If it has gas, it has the correct amount of oil.

All oils are tinted and will slightly tint the gas. With experience, the color will tell you if you 1. Have oil at all 2. Have enough, 3. Have too much.

Try it-- in a glass container add single strength and in another add double strength and hold them side by side.

Re: fuel/oil ratio testing

There may be a way to figure out the ratio using the viscosity of the fuel to figure out the amount of oil. We used to use a cup with a precise hole and a stop watch, to figure out how much to thin paint. The time it took to empty gave a clue to the thickness of the paint. Of course the penalty of thinning paint too much is not as bad as blowing up a motor.

if you dont think you added enough oil......add more.....take some spare plugs and run till yer tank is half full, then add fuel oil mix that you know is thr right ratio.
