I talked to you last week on getting fuel pressure for a 70h.p. Evinrude V.R.O. I'm getting about 5 p.s.i. At times the gage will fluctuate slightly going down a lb. or two. Does this indicate a possible air leak in line? This is not the normal fluctuation when the pump is injecting oil.The pump clicks and drops in pressure just for a second when this happens. This is less of a fluctuation and it has no pattern.

Any one Ive ever checked was a constant pressure so it may well be air. Put a clear piece of hose on the outlet side and see if there are air bubbles.

What are we trying to diagnose anyway?

It wants to bog down on take off.If you keep trying to get it to take off it finally does. Then after about two or three minutes of running good it slowly loses power down to nothing. Also if you keep pushing the key in it picks up and runs fine.

Look for air entering the fuel system between the fuel tank and fuel pump. I had the same symptoms and found a crack in the pick up tube in the fuel tank. My motor would run for about 2 minutes and then start to sputter, I hit the key until it cleared up, 2 minutes later..... Sounds like air to me.
