I have a 2001 90 hp Johnson. Having a fuel problem. Not getting any fuel unless I pump the primer bulb. The motor runs good until the fuel runs out. Pump the bulb, and it starts up again, and does the same thing. I just rebuilt the VRO pump and still having the same problem. I want to check to make sure I dont have a short going to the pump itself before I replace the pump. I have a four wire connection to the pump. Do you possibly know which wires to check to see if I am getting power and where the go to so I can check continuity in the wires to make sure I dont have a short. Any help quickly would be appreciated.

Thanks, Brian

Look for causes other than the pump, Brian. Those wires do not provide power, they are sensors.

Take the fuel line loose from a carb, put it in a bottle and turn her over. Are you getting spurts of fuel into the bottle? No? Try pumping the primer bulb. Got spurts now? Okay, you may have a restriction somewhere that the pump cannot overcome but the primer can or you may have an air leak in the line or a connector.

Other possibilities are a restricted vent in the tank, fuel pickup in the tank, antisiphon valve (if it has one).

Let us know what you find, and good luck. :)
