Fuel problem

1962 Johnson 28hp Seahorse. Fuel filter bowl filling with air. Can find no fuel leak where air can get in. Help!

Does the motor run out of gas when it's running full throttle?

Have not run it in lake yet just in a barrel.
It runs in barrel fine but I noted the air when running.

The bowl will not be completely full of fuel when the engine is running.

That is a correct statement. They never did run full and never will. The engineers made one mistake--they used a glass bowl. It they had used metal or plastic, people would not be able to see inside and wouldn't be worrying about it.

I just rebuilt the carburator and fuel pump and thought I messed it up.
