Fuel Problem?

I have a 1987 40hp mariner that it will start right up and idle like a champ. If I cruise at under 4 grand it runs good but if I run it wide open for maybe a 1/8 mile it acts like it is running out of gas. When this happens I can squeeze the bulb and it will come back to life.I have had this to the dealer once and after 800 coco nuts I have lost faith in them. They said they looked at the carbs and said they were good and the high speed jet was clean. I rebuilt the Fuel pump myself after they messed with it and didnt help at all. Are the high speed jets on this motor on the side and at the bottom of the carbs? I took the top plug on the carb and it looks like a main jet but I can look at the bottom one and it hasn't been touched. Any help I would be gratefull for because I would like to take my 77 year old father fishing this sunday. Thanks again for the help.

Re: Fuel Problem?

If the engine run properly by pumping the bulb the problem is with the fuel pump, bad fuel connection or primer bulb

Re: Fuel Problem?

Thank you for the info I am sure you are right and that is most likely the new fuel hose they put on. I tried a different tank but not the gas line so I will give that a try this weekend. I dont know if there was a trouble before or not because I just bought the boat from a elderly couple. Thanks again for the help.

Re: Fuel Problem?

Well I have tried a new tank, Fuel line with primer and Rebuilt the fuel pump and still have the same problem. Is it possible that I have been runnin 93 octane that it could be vapor locking?I left the hood off and when it was acting up I looked at the water septorator and it was still full of fuel. I am running out of ideas.
