this is a 91 gt150 johnson. I had this same problem last year in the summer. I am not real goo with an outboard motor so you will have to forgive me. It seems like when it gets hot outside the motor is hard to start. Once you get running it never gives you a bit of problem until the next time. I tinkerd with something on the opposite side of the fuel pump, it is a small cylinder with an orange lever and did affect the running of the motor. could this be my problem? Thanks for any help

jws,

I believe that to be your primer solonoid. You betcha that will make it hard to start.

There should be a label on it that tells you which way to turn the lever for manual or automatic. I believe the lever folded back toward the bottom of the solonoid is auto.

Put the lever back in the automatic mode. Have someone turn the key on (not crank) and push in on the key. The solonoid should click. If not, the slonoid is bad or there is a wiring problem.

The solonoid is not an expensive part.

will putting this in manuel help me get it started? I have noticed that when it starts, i open it up to plane off and it acts real weak. I put it in nuetral rev it up, and then it runs fine. Will the hot weather affect this as well?
