Got an old 87 50hp force. It started last weekend we went out and right off the bat idling out of the no wake zone, it dies.... A few hard starts but other than that no big deal. Was going to take it out this weekend with the kids so i cleaned out the carbs which didn't appear dirty at all but went through them anyway. Place it on a hose with flush attatchment and as soon as i give it any gas whatsoever it dies right away then is hard to start. It will idle fine but as soon as any throttle is given thats all she wrote took the carbs back off and checked the float height and it was fine. Did the same thing. So now i am not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Re: Fuel problems

Fuel pump diaphram is likely worn or perforated. Cheap fix, and cleans up alot of issues. Part # 18-7806 for your motor $16.00

Re: Fuel problems

Do a compression test on each cylinder. Fuel pump needs good comp. to deliver fuel to carb. in proper amounts. Check all fuel lines from tank to motor including fuel pick up tube in tank. Make sure primer bulb stay firm after priming. Make sure fuel vent is venting properly.
