Fuel puddling under powerhead, can nicked Port edge be causing this? Pic

Hi all, bit of a read, but need to be clear

I reworked my 1993 115 last year. Had a piston scuff and break rings..went all through the motor. The cylinder measured good, only had extremely fine lines that I honed out (and remeasured again) and some aluminum transfer that I used acid to remove. It got all new pistons and rings, among other work.

It sat on bench 6 about 4 mos until I could mount it and test it on my housing, in a barrel. It ran great with 115lbs on all. Loved how it ran. But after some testing I had raw fuel/oil mix pooling under the block in the open non-gasketed area under the lower crank head.....This dripping eventually came out the steering arm openings and would run down the motor mid-housing.

Since I did not like this, I continued the season with a spare motor I had....Put this on the bench. It seemed like there was "seepage" around the lower crank head, and bolts.

So, I took it all apart again...Installed new lower and upper seals, as well as new set of 4 O-rings upper and lower. I also put small o-rings on the bolts for the lower crank retainer ring that should be there but were not (arond the head of the 4 bolts).... It is all back together and untested so far.

QUESTION IS THIS: That one cylinder, although in good shape and 115 lbs, has a nick accross the back of one of the intake ports. SEE PIC...It seems to be out of the way of any compression or exhaust stroke travel....BUT I'M WONDERING if this could somehow drag back, or allow extra fuel/oil mix to get beyond the rings and pool at the bottom of the crank, until it can seep out????

That nick in the cylinder has nothing to do with fuel puddling under the block.----Oil that works it's way to the bottom of the crankshaft is pumped back up to the top bearing.-----Done through a " secret " passage way.

Thanks Racerone..Your always on top of these! I thought about just that... those small openings ive seen during teardown, hoping that was some sort of recirc path. very cool.

I'm hoping the new seals, and new large O-rings will do the trick....I also didnt know from past motors I've worked on, that the 4 screws on the adapter ring on the lower head, are supposed to have a small o-ring under the heads, which I did not...But do now. wont be able to test for some time yet.

It was significant enough to want me to take it apart again.

Yeah, without the o-rings on the four 1/4"-UNF bolts that hold the bottom bearing plate, any fuel/oil sitting in the bearing housing will seep through as the star washers will shim. Not likely a problem with the two large o-rings, but since you had it apart anyway, no harm replacing them.

The bottom of the cylinder (where the rod goes thru) is a slot that goes straight to the crankcase for the specific cylinder.
The intake ports are a direct path to the crankcase also.

How can a nick in the bottom of the intake port have ANY effect at all?
