Fuel pump 170 mercrus 1986 ? trying to put

fuelpump back on. Does anybody know why my friends pump goes upsidedown? My guess is the diametier of the block thin at the top wider at the cranck........correct?

Do I have to turn the motor to get the pump lever to sit on the cam?

Some pumps were built one way some the other. You are using a marine pump right? You do not have to turn the engine but it may help to have the cam on a low spot instead of compressing the lever to get it in.
