Okay, I have a 2000 evinrude 9.9 four stroke (e10rl4sse) the fuel pump is not doing it's job. I've rebuilt it and no luck...still not pumping. Motor runs great with the fuel in the carb bowl but the pump is not working. Called brp they confirmed that they no longer produce the fuel pump and are not aware of any other manufacturers that do. I've searched everywhere for a pump no luck. Any ideas of what I should do? Will another pump from a different engine work? I know they used that pump with every evinrude and Johnson 9.9 and 15 four stroke from 95-2001. Thank you

That pump is a mechanical pump which works off the cam, if I remember right. so you might be able to get a used one on Ebay, I think you could make a aluminum cover plate to fit where the fuel pump mounts tap the plate for a 1/4 inch brass nipple and then install a diaphragm operated fuel pump such as the minkuni or a briggs & Stratton both are available on Ebay for less than $25.00 kodi

A pump similar to a Briggs & Stratton Briggs 808492? What do you mean by brass nipple?

Have you checked availability from Suzuki or whomever manufactured the engine. May have been omc but I thought they were just rebranded foreign makes. I could be wrong when it comes to the little ones. I don't see too many here

look under the Top Secret Files at the beginning of this Forum..scroll down to Salvage Yards and possibly contact them...or wait on eBay to have something..or jake's suggestion...your unsuccessful rebuild attempt was it with BRP Kit 0435070?

I think you should be able to tap the upper or lower cylinder block some where to get a pulse from the up & down piston action, this would then operate a diaphragm style fuel pump, a 1/8 inch npt brass nipple screwed into the tapped hole a short hose run to the pulse input of the pump. then run fuel lines input from tank, output to carb. motor should run. I have not done this on a outboard but it should work as I did this to my old 4 cycle kohler tractor, it had a mechanical fuel pump and they are over $140.00 I got the pulse by putting a aluminum plate over the opening where the mechanical pump was removed. I tapped this plate and installed a brass nipple from the hardware store it was I think 3/8 "x 1/8 nipple I then installed a short hose to a Briggs & Stratton fuel pump and she now pumps fuel well. kodi

It looks like the fuel pump for the evinrude 9.9 two stroke is a pulse pump. Think I could make a gasket for it and bolt it up?

???-----They modified the 2 stroke carburetor to work.-----They used the 2 stroke lower unit with a different driveshaft.-------Not sure why they would go with a cam operated pump if the 2 stroke pump was available to them !

Tried rebuilding again? AITn refers to the right kit -- Maybe you used another one by mistake. 0435070 is pricey, and looks complicated enough that it could be installed incorrectly. [Edit. Sorry. See you have the right kit....]

Not sure if this will work for you, but instructions for disassembly and assembly here: http://boatinfo.no/lib/evinrude/manu...rude.html#/134 (3-37/38). On 3-36 there is a diagram of the outer assembly of your pump (should check the screen). Think if it were me, I would pull it apart again and check assembly. The diaphragm apparently has to be rotated 90 degrees to "lock into place" -- sounds like something I would miss, absent instructions....

There is more blow than suck in a 2 and 4 stroke crankcase. There is usually a spring pushing against the diaphragm to assist with the suck. If ya can find a spot on the 4 stroke crankcase that receives good pulses a 4 stroke impulse pump will work fine. A 4 stroke impulse pump has provisions to make sure oil does not fill the impulse hose and hydrolock its operation. Make sure the pump is mounted higher than the pulse fitting on the motor so the oil will drain back to the crankcase.

crap..old post..oh well..
