fuel pump?? blockage?

I recently got my 68' 9.5 jonnyrude serviced for the start f the season<br /><br />when i left it in they told me i had a leak in my fuel pump that the gasket was disinergrating<br /><br />the guy that worked on it couldnt locate a gasket for it so he made a makeshift one <br /><br />i took my engine out today<br />started on 2nd pull ran fine while i ran it at a fast idle to warm it up<br /><br />when i went to take off i took her upo about a quarter throttle , as soon as i went over that she was spluttering and died a few times , would restart on first pull each time<br /><br />i guessed it could be the pump , and that it could be drawing air thru the home made gasket<br /><br />then i pulled out the chaoke while it was running and gave it some gas and it took off like a rocket<br /><br />i pushed the choke in and ran at WOT for about 10 mins to my fishin hole<br /><br />the engine ran fine for the rest of the day<br /><br />could there have been some sort of blockage in the jets or the hoses??<br /><br />any ideas , ran fine all day after that so im thinkin ill be ok , any opinions welcome

Hi Digi....<br />It's possible that a piece of "something" may have lodged in the main jet and when you pulled the choke it sucked it up into the carb. See what she does next time out and post the results. I'm not real huge myself on homemade gaskets. Not cutting a gasket clean can let shreads of gasket material into the bowl. Keep us posted. Hope you don't have any problems.

From experience with that exact motor, I can tell you that those fuel pumps are next to impossible to rebuild. Do yourself a favor and buy a new one. They cost 45 dollars plus tax, and you wont have to be worried about being stranded.
