Planning on changing out VRO2 with conventional fuel pump. Motor is 97 50 HP Johnson Serial no. J50TLEUC. Would like to use proper conventional pump that would mount properly to the block (block has 2 mounting holes and pulse plug on the block. Need the proper conventional fuel pump part number for my motor. Diagram shows 438557. Please verify, and also, what do I do with the 3rd fitting on this conventional fuel pump. I was under the impression that mounting to my block would provide the pulse to activate the pump. If so, what is the 3rd fitting for. Fuel in, Fuel out, and ?.
Thanks for your help on this.

Re: Fuel Pump Changeout

if the pump has three fittings i would say its the pulse.
i have one of these pumps in place of the dreaded VRO on my 60hp triple and it uses the third as the pulse.

Re: Fuel Pump Changeout

Also, if your fuel pump is still working and your only changing it out so you can pre-mix or having trouble with the oiling side, you can use the current pump as a fuel only pump.

The Maxrules web site will recommend a premix pump, as well as repair kits, in case you want to rebuild your OMS pump.

Re: Fuel Pump Changeout

Just finish a fuel pump change out the part number will work on all Johnson part# 0438559 this is if you have a hose coming off your vro to the pulse plug. check out the attach picture. I bought mine from marine engine they are cheaper & easy to find the right part plus you get the part "qucik"0438559.jpg see ya.
