I have heard on this forum that you can dissasemble the fuel pump for this engine and complete an overhaul to clean out and repair. My mechanic seems to think i may be wasting money in labor for him to try this. He changed distributor cap, and cleaned out the fuel regulator and replaced the clip (parts bulleton for the pressure regulator).
We took the boat out (pump still whining terribly) and put it uder laod. The engine started back-firing and lost power.
Does anyone think I should have him take the fuel cell apart befor purchasing a new one?
This is on a 2006 Engine. The bad part is, it was a replacement boat for a 2004 Regal 2665 (lemon). The 2004 had a 7 year Extended warranty on the engine, and was supposed to be the same on the replacement boat. I called Regal yesterday, they claim that they forgot to register the new one with Volvo Penta and now, unless I have anything in writing with the dealer (now out of business), they don't think it would be under warranty. Even if i would have had the VP 2 plus 4 year extended warranty, this problem would have just made it (term of warranty) and should be covered.

So I know i will probably need to hassel Volvo penta and Regal to get this handled, but in the meantime, can this really work by taking apart and overhauling?

Now my mecahnic wants to try running it with a portable gas tank to see if we still have the problem or if it may be caused by the tank. i don't think this is the problem, when he took aprt the pressure regulator, it was dirty, which means something is probaly gummed up in the pump.

Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
