I finally finished the work I have done to my good old Lark VIII 40 HP. New head gasket, cleaned carb with new kit+float, starter rebuilt and also I have change the propeller shaft seal, in fact 6 seals.
It was time to test it in my tank today. Since I wanted also to check the condition of the fuel pump filter wich was perfectly ok, I put it back on. Time to test.
I squeezed the primer bulb and gas leaked from that gasket
. Ok I'll get a new one... Let's take the fuel line from gas tank and plug it into directly to the gas line to carb. Choked it, give throttle and start it and it fired up pretty fast for a motor that didn't run for 7 months. I had to keep the priming the fuel bulb after a while.
Now bad surprise when I go shop at the parts on BOATS.NET, the fuel pump from a 1966is slightly different, not like the one of the 1968 models. What can I do? Do they still make fuel pumps for this outboard. Or maybe can I use a kind of a scealent on the old gasket?
