I'm trying to find a fuel pump kit for my 1150 I6. I am having trouble identifying the part I need with the serial number on the motor(4737981). I have looked at the mercury marine web site, but it says it doesn't exist. I believe the motor is a 78, but I'm not certain.

1977

Mercury website doesn't work for motors that old. Try iboats parts search ,one of the other online retailers, or your local marine parts dealer.

Pfoley, The fuel pump kits for that motor are pretty universal and available. There are two types, twin transfer cover mounted pumps and a single pump mounted on the lower cowling. If you have a local Merc dealer, I would try him, since you won't save much $ going mail order.

Okay, I found the kit and ordered it, thank you. How hard is it to rebuiild a pump? My fear is that when I open the pump, a thousand pieces are going to fly out and I won't be able to get it back together. Anyone?
