(In regards to my 1960 40hp Johnson Sea-Horse)

I recently cleaned and rebuilt my fuel pump and changed all the fuel lines. (Thanks to Paul Moir for the diagram) Everything worked great...EXCEPT... the o-ring which seals the glass bowl to the pump got sucked in and became warped. A buddy and I managed to make one out of the seal inside the cap of a big mouth Pepsi bottle. :) It works great, however I would like to replace it with an actual o-ring. I used the parts finder on here and it came up with part # 18-7111. Without a picture I am unsure if this is the correct part.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Matt

Re: Fuel Pump O-Ring

Try local autoparts or hardware store to match dia and thickness. Very inexpensive should be easy to find. good luck

Re: Fuel Pump O-Ring

Nope, that's not it. It's way too small. The right 0-ring for the glass bowl is in the 18-7801 fuel pump repair kit, but I can't find the OMC part number for it, or the Sierra part number.

Here's a thought, though. Grab that glass bowl and head for the nearest Ace or True Value. They have a drawer of o-rings there. I'm guessing it's a standard size, but I'm not certain. Just find one that's the same diameter as the bowl rim, midway across the depth of the glass.

This is not a critical part. An o-ring that fits will work.

Or...you can grab a new kit at the local NAPA and use the ring and save the rest.
