Where is the fuel pump? I have a 2005 4.3 mpi mercruiser. If it is where I think it is, bottom port side of the engine, do I have to pull the engine to get to it to replace?? Surely not. This is in a 2005 Crownline 206LS.

Brief history: Boated all week last week on vacation, no problems other than a couple of times it took 3 attempts to crank instead of the usual 1 turn of the key. Had the boat a little less than a year and this has happened a few times. Got home and went to local lake and ran for about 30 minutes total pulling skier and tuber (stopped and shut down engine between events), then stopped to swim for about 30 minutes. Motor would not crank. Changed the fuel filter/water seperator while on water, still nothing. Discovered yesterday when I pulled the new filter off it was dry, so no fuel to engine therefore no run! Can hear the fuel pump running when the key is first turned on as usual. PUlled the fuel pickup out of the tank and no trash in it. Check valve appears to be working, but going to go back and pull it apart and oil it. Neighbor is going to check my fuel pressure tonight on top of the engine.

I am hoping it is not a bad pump because it looks like it will be a pain to change. Any other ideas?
