I'm rebuilding the fuel pump on my motor which involves replacing the gaskets, diaphragm, etc.. When taking the the fuel pump apart the gaskets on there now are stuck to the parts with some kind of gasket sealer which requires careful scraping to avoid damage to the plastic pump parts. Anyway, is the gasket sealer necessary when reassembling and if so what type should be used?

Aggie....there should be NO gasket sealer on the gaskets. Put it together dry.

OBJ has it right as usual.

As an aside,I replce the whole pump,as rebuild parts and time come too close to new pump cost.
DHP

Thanks for the input fellas! I've already purchased the rebuild kit (about $7.00) I didn't think there should be any sealer on the assembly and ya'll confirmed that. I'm going to try and put it all back together with new parts and remove all the old sealant material. It looks pretty straight forward - any secrets I need to know about?
