I'm replacing the fuel pump on my 87 3.0 mercruiser . Is any trick to it or does it just bolt on the block...ie... how does the arm fit in the block?

I just took the fuel pump off of a 3.0 today. Although, it is a 98 Volvo Penta, I think they are the same setup. Two bolts hold it on and of course the fuel lines. Make sure to plug the line from the tank to prevent any gas from leaking out, not a big deal.
When re-installing, the arm goes under the camshaft. I like to smear a bit of grease onto the surface where it will make contact with the camshaft. Hope this helps.

Thanks ...although I don't think the fuel pump in the illustration you sent in is the same as mine I'll check it when I get home. I don't remember seeing the push rod protruding outside the block.

It should look like the following pictures. It?s broken down by serial numbers so I can?t tell you which one will fit your block.

Assuming the 3.0?s engine blocks are all the same (for the most part) GM block. The 3.O?s fuel pump is in the middle of the block, while the arm extends inside of the block and is operated by riding ?directly? on the camshaft.

The SBC fuel pump runs off of a push rod that contacts the cam through the front of the engine. Hope this helps.
