Fuel pump squeal????

I was down working on putting new gauges in the boat (in my signature) tonight and fired up the port engine to test my handywork. About five seconds after it started I got this odd squeal that I couldn't identify or find. I shut down, and the squeal died about a half second after the motor stopped. I turned the key back to the "accessory" position and got the squeal again. I could hear the pump working like it always does, but the "squeal" was loud enough to be heard over the engine when it was running. It has never done this to me before, but I'm assuming it is not a good thing. I'm already pushing $3k in "maintenance" items this year and she hasn't even left the slip! This may just end my season before it starts.

It seemed to run fine at idle and for the few seconds that I ran the throttle up. Am I making too big a deal of this or is the pump shot? I'm guessing I don't want to know how much a new one is...

Re: Fuel pump squeal????

Noisy fuel pumps are usually caused by air in the system. Temporarily hook up a short piece of clear hose between the engines fuel fitting and the boats fuel tank an run the engine. See if you get air bubbles in the clear hose.
