After a long respite in the garage (and a new tilt motor and carb re-build), the Hustler is finally fixed and river-worthy...or so we thought. After a trouble free jaunt down river we turned around and headed for home. As soon as we got it full throttle and opened up, there was a pop and it quit. Didn't sputter or anything, just quit. After a few minutes, she started right up but as soon as we asked for a little more speed, it would pop and quit again. Our car mechanic, without really even looking at it, suggested it was the fuel pump. Is that possible? Would a bad fuel pump still run the boat at all? I guess I figured if the pump was bad, it wouldn't pump gas at all.
I really hate it that the boat was fixed and running beautifully and now is broke again. If it's something as simple as the fuel pump, I'd like to try and fix it myself and soon.
Thank you in advance for any light shed on the subject. I'm kinda at a loss and super frustrated...
