I am installing a fuel pump on my 1955 evenrude and need to find out what I need to do with the fuel line that goes from the engine to the old three prong connector. Should I just clamp it off or take it off completely?

Re: Fuel pump

Hi J Headrick,

Cool Question. I guess what you decide to do depends on what you longer term plans and expectations are for the motor.

I would replace the 3-prong connector on the motor with a newer 2-prong style so that it could be used with newer tanks and hoses.

BUT,.. if you want to preserve the visual integrity of the system, I would leave the line off of the motor connection and vent the tank so that the pump can do its job.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!

P.S. I almost forgot,... I LOVE these old motors.

Re: Fuel pump

One of the reasons that pressure system was done away with is the danger a pressure tank presented. Unless you want to put it in the museum, why keep that it?
