i know there's been plenty of discussion on the best octane to use 87, 89,91 ... I agree with the use FRESH 87 high quality gas. My question is are the big guys like Chevron, Shell, Exxon any better than say a Citgo or a Diamond Shamrock? I swear that my truck runs better on Shell or Chevron gas, but it may just be perception. I'd rather run the cleanest burning fuel I can get. Also, you see fuel being delivered to Brand name stations by all sorts of no-name trucks ... Is all gas the same really? Do they put additives in at the plant or when it's delivered at the station?

I kinda doubt anyone really knows what's in the fuel at a given station. I'm sure some may be better than others, but all I can suggest is going to one that does a high volume so as not to get any that may have old or contaminated fuel. I've bought it everywhere and really never saw any difference in performance. Mixing is all done at the refinery.

Re: Fuel question ...

When I was working as an electrician some years back. We were doing a gas substation rewire job. And I saw the no name trucks and name brand trucks coming and going. So I asked the station manager if there really was in difference. He kind of smirked and said, that the additives were being put in as the truck (trailer) was being filled. The driver just punched in waht brand he was delivering and whamo, additive was added. So I guess we can all take it for what it is worth. The gas all basically starts out the same, and are the additives really doing anything? Who knows, just thought I would trow my 2 bits in.

I've heard not put gas into your boat (or vehicle) if the tanker truck is, or just has put it's load of gas into the underground tanks. It stirrs up the sediment at the bottom of the tanks.
