Hi,
I have an internal stainless steel tank for my outboard. I want to be able to switch to a portable tank when needed by just having the portable tank connected to a fuel selector (two incoming connections - one for internal tank and the second for an external portable tank).

I'm in search for a quality fuel selector valve that can do this but so far I have not found any that I like. I have found one Yamaha and one Tempo selector but I'm not sure they are reliable (picture below).

Can You recommend something that might be good?
I do not mind to pay a little extra if it is really high quality (I want to avoid a leaking selector after some time of use for example).
I have a Yamaha F115 4-stroke.

/Bo

Re: Fuel selector valve

Hi,
I just think they look a little "weak". Not solid. My main concern is they must not leak since they will be mounted in my storage compartment (the only place it can be mounted). I do not want to get gas there if it start to leak from the fuel selector...
I will have to buy one to tell if it is good quality, for example the Yamaha but then I have to plug the third incomming line.

Maybe anyone here is using a fuel selector You can recommend?

Re: Fuel selector valve

Hi Bo,
I use tempo, and consider it solid enough. Actually I put it three months ago to replace another tempo selector. The cause was the previous owner got it drilled through, which still allowed to select the tank, but had no cut off position, which I didn’t like. The old selector was some three years old and it didn’t loose a drop.
So I got myself a new tempo and it’s been perfectly ok. I think that more likely you will get the fuel leaking from the faulty fuel line or because of loose hose clamp than from the selector itself.

Re: Fuel selector valve

I have a valve which looks exactly like the tempo example above. It is a solid piece of hardware and from what I've seen, a standard piece. Works great (for about 10 years now). I can't imagine the Yamaha example would be a problem either. It looks like all brass construction as well.

Re: Fuel selector valve

Plenty of the same type of switching valves found in trucks and other vehicles with multiple fuel tanks. I ran one for years on a Chevy P/U with dual tanks( put on in '79 ) Never any hint of a leak. Brass valve no corrosion. Never worried about it either.
