Fuel Sender Danger ?

I am getting ready to install a Tempo fuel sender and noticed that the electrical wire that is connecting to the sender case is actually placed into a half tank of gas after the install is complete. Doesn't this pose some type of explosion risk having a hot wire in gasoline ? Did I misunderstand the directions ?<br /><br />I took out the old sender unit off of a 76 Seaswirl and noticed the sender case was mounted up at the top with no external wire hanging in the gasoline. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thats normal.. The wire is'nt "hot" (unless you hook it up that way).. <br /><br />The fuel gauge and sender combo works off ohms resistance... I know it seems strange to have wires in the tank, but thats how it is..

Batz, with gas it's the fumes that explode, just ask anyone who tried welding an empty gas tank.
