I have a 1988 Chapparal 2350 SX. The fuel gauge does not work. I removed the small cover to access the sending unit and grounded the pink wire with the key on which caused the gauge to show full. OK, then the sending unit is suspect so I removed it and bench tested it with an ohm meter and it seemed to work OK. I then re-installed that and ran a direct ground between the ground terminal on the unit to the battery and it worked OK then, too. An ohms check between that ground terminal and the battery's ground showed open. So, I took apart the dash and did an ohms test from the harness ground there to the sending unit ground - 1900 ohms. This tells me there is a bad connection somewhere between that sender's ground wire and the main battery ground somewhere. Normally, I would simply run a brand new ground to that terminal on the sending unit and be done with it. Problem is that tank on these boats are all sealed around that sending unit and that ground wire runs under the floorboard somewhere but I have no idea where that wire exits or is accessible so I may either find the faulty connection or just run a new ground to it. I was hoping someone familiar with these boats would know where I could find that ground wire's entry into the main ground wiring harness. Thanks in advance for any help.
