Is STA-BIL ok to use in outboard engines? Had a Merc dealer to tell a friend of mine that he needs to use the merc brand of fuel stabilizer because sta-bil breaks down your 2-cycle oil. Is this true? Or is he trying to market his own brand? I have used it with my nissans for years with no problems. I was planning to use it in my new 90hp nissan but after what he said I am not sure. Could some of you guys shed some light on the subject? Thanks :confused

Re: fuel stabilizers

i think the dealer was pushing his own product.the important thing is use a brand name.sta-bil is fine. i bet the dealer didn't say that the merc stuff is actually made by gold eagle.

Re: fuel stabilizers

Kinda off-topic here, but worth throwing in...
If you do use a fuel stabilizer, go down on the octane one grade. This is because sta-bil
will slitghtly raise the octane. My force will not run with 92octane,stabilized fuel.
It carries-on something fierce.
Just my experiance with it,tho.

------------------
Quater Horse; The kiddy ride in front of K-Mart.
