fuel starving

Hi guys. I want to thank Foul Plug , Norman and the others that gave me great advise on getting the right spark plug for my gamefisher 3HP engine. It starts better and runs longer.
I can now see that the engine dies out after running a while because it is starving for gas. It is a gravity feed system from the tank. I have tried taking the gas cap off to get air in the tank, but that did not help.
It seems that the fuel into the carb just doesn't keep up with the demand the engine has. I replaced all the gas hoses etc. I had to put a different shut offf valve on the moteor because the old one leaked a lot. It died out even with the old valve too.
Any suggestions?

Re: fuel starving

you don't want air in the gas tank. do u have a marine gas tank. does it have a primer bulb? that could be bad if u have one 2. cause i have a 30hp oil injected and the same problem happened. it would run for a little and die. so we took it to get it fixed and the primer bulb was bad
hope this works!!

Re: fuel starving

All fuel tanks require air to replace the fuel as it is used. That's why these tanks have a vent on them.If the vent is closed or otherwise plugged up, the engine will run for a while, the bulb will collapse.Within minutes, the engine will lose power and stall.
But you eliminated that possabilty, when you removed the gas cap,and found no inprovement.

I would suspect the fuel pump,a clogged fuel filter, leaking fuel line,or debris caught in the jets of the carb.

Re: fuel starving

Thompson:

I have the same little motor. I have had nothing but problems and am now going to get rid of it on e-bay. A lot of people love those little sears motors.

Mine does the same thing as yours. Last year I replaced the carb and that fixed the problem. But again this year, same problem.

After it stalls I usually unscrew the fuel filter, dump it out and start it again. It runs for a while, and then when gas is given a lot it dies.

I adjusted carb to lower idle figuring it was to rich a mixture, but again it dies.

I am clueless and not going to give sears $157.00 for a little carb.

I have no clues at all.
