ok you guys have an infectious quality to you. that and the fact i can't ever seem to just give up on things. i have the Avenger 16 ft with merc 65 hp motor in the pic.
she's never run the way i want so i had thought of getting something different but, that would be giving up. if i'm going to keep her there are a few things i would like to do. ok a lot of things.
first is there a way i could mount a permanent tank in front of the transom, where the tank is now,and run the fuel filler neck up to the port side rear and install a permanent cap there.
how hard is it to replace the seats? would like to put in two buckets and a bench in front of the perm tank.
if i decide to toss the motor for something newer, how hard is it to repower?
finally how hard is it to repaint this thing. i love the style but would love to have it red/white.
i have some mech aptitude, just that it is mostly cars and bikes, need a new skill set I guess.
thanks in advance guys.

Re: fuel tank and then some

as far as repainting goes,a few questions needed answered...
is the boat a solid color or is it metal flaked?
is it clear coated/gel coated?
if the boat is gel coated you need to wet sand all the gel coat off down to the paint,if its not gel coated you can wet sand the boat with 400 grit sand paper wash it off with soapy water wash it with prepsol then mask it off with tape and begin the repaint,
sherwin williams has remarkable acrylic enamel paints that have a beautiful shine when they are dry,the paint is quite easy to spray on even for someone with not much spray experience( I would'nt advise someone with no experience at all) and acrylic enamel dosent require a clear coat,
get a gallon of paint and practice on sprayin on an old metal cabinet or somethin metalic, its not really that hard,it takes practice but it can be done.
good luck, send me a private message if you need more coaching,
mike

the current finish is plain white and copper/gold metal flake.

i would love to keep some of it metal flake but I've heard horror stories of working with it. i do have some experience painting. use to paint machines once i rebuilt them and played gopher in a body shop. plus i have a friend who works in a body shop currently who owes me a couple favors. i knew i put the new drive train in his truck for some reason. LOL
