I have a 80 gallon fuel tank with rust in it. I bought the boat and the guy said he left it empty to keep fuel from going bad as he bought a new boat and never used the old one much. I'm curious if any one has any suggestions on removing the rust from the tank. Tank can be removed from the boat.

There's no good way to DIY, but there are plenty of companies who will clean it out and coat the inside for you. It's pretty inexpensive, too...

Zero, If the rust is minor, a couple of handfulls of nuts, bolts and washers and a couple of qts of 50::1 fuel mix or kerosene will do it. Put the stuff in and shake it around. After a while, dump it out and dispose of the fuel.

if the tank has pitting, you might like to replace it. if it leaks 80 gal of fuel into your bilge, you will hate it!
