I would like to keep these older metal tanks as they are aged with the boat (1977)and would like to somehow clean them along with the pick up. The bottom of the tanks look fine really. I am having an issue with my fuel bulb going flat on me when changing tanks so one of the first things to do is have a look at the pickup tube. Does anyone have any ideas on how to clean these metal tanks and pickup. thanks

Re: fuel tank cleaning

In the past, I have removed the fuel connector housing assy, put a hand full of 3/8 nuts in the tank with a little solvent and shook the snot out of it. The nuts will break any crud loose in the tank and you will have access to the screen on the pickup tube.

If the pickup tube doesn't do it, check the connector on the tank for bad orings or the fitting on top of the tank itself.
