Fuel tank ground wire question.

My 72 Glassmaster has twin 12 gallon tanks with mechanical (non-electrical) guages. I assume the tanks should still be grounded but what should they be grounded to.

Bill, The only need to be grounded if they are permanently installed and made of metal. if they are removeable or made of plastic, with non-electrical gauge senders, they need not be grounded.

If the fule filler fitting on permanent tanks is metal, it needs to be grounded, regardless of the tank's material or gauge status.

its actually called,bonding.
and Chris is correct.
if the filler is metal and the tank is permanantly installed and metal they all have to be bonded to the negative battery terminal.
keeps everything at the same electrical potential and keeps static sparks down.

Since my tanks are metallic and permanently mounted I will make sure they are both grounded to the negative side of my battery.
