Fuel tank installation

Time has come to start shopping/installing my fuel tank. Does someone have, or can point me to a link, a schematic of the typical fuel tank system? I want to make sure I have everything properly installed.

Outboard engine or inboard?
plastic , alum or stainless tank?
Was there an original installation below deck ?
Is the bilge vented already?
Got any pics?

Uh, yeah... I guess that would have helped, but I have got it figured out. I went to the local boat yards and talked to a mechanic.
