fuel tank relocation?

I'm in the process of building a boat for catfishing. I have completely gutted the hull to start from scratch. I do my fishing in the Dan and Staunton rivers in virginia. I have had a console custom built for the front of the boat so I can see obstructions in the water at night. I am mounting my bait tank/ livewell (40-50 gal) in the rear of the boat. I would like to put my fuel tank under the front deck to help level out the load in the boat. My question is will I need to install a 4-8 psi shuttle pump to get fuel to the engine? I'm sure I will but will it affect fuel delivery? Will the diaphragm pump on the motor be able to handle a constant 4-8 psi?

You don't need to do anything, just connect the fuel line to the tank.

Meaning you don't need a fuel pump.

So you're telling me that the diaphragm pump will pull fuel a length of about 20 feet?

Yes.

From the limited information you supplied (no brand or type of motor, no HP figure, no boat length, no type of tank, or fuel line info) in the first post, I had to just go with what I assumed you may be running.

But yes, the motor is only lifting the fuel up to the motor, although there could be a reduced flow due to the resistance of the long fuel line it will still move it that far.

You should be using a large diameter fuel line for longer runs to overcome the increased resistance.

I would certainly try to use the engine pump only or some other USCG approved method. You need a one way antisiphon barb on the tank and A1 fuel hose and double clamps on all connections. I wouldn't skimp on any of this or use any type of non marine booster pump or fuel line.
