Fuel Tank Sending Unit Wiring

I'm adding a fuel tank to my boat that never had a permanantly installed tank before. I have a factory gauge and the tank is new from the boat manufacturer. But I'm not sure how to connect the wiring for the sending unit. Can anyone provide me a quick drawing?
The back of the gauge has terminals labeled "S", "G", "I" but the tank had only a Tab (I assume for ground), and the center post (I assume that would go to the gauge).
The "G" on the gauge must be for Ground also but...what is the "I" for? ...And...Where does the power to feed the sending unit come from?

Any help is greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Terry B.

Re: Fuel Tank Sending Unit Wiring

"I" stands for "ignition" which where the gauge gets its power (+12 volts). "G" is ground and "S" = sender. The "I" and "G" terminals can be connected to the same terminals on any other gauge. That takes care of the gauge end of the system. The "S" wire from the gauge gets connected to the threaded post on the sender at the tank. The tab is the ground for the sender and it goes to the negative terminal of the battery or to the engine block. A second ground wire should run up to the filler port for the tank. The sender itself does not have +12 volts on it.

Here is a diagram. And by the way, had you used the "search" function you would have found over 50 entries for this topic and the diagram that follows would appear in a good number of them. Plus you wouldn't have had to wait for a response.

Thank you for your response. You are correct about using the search function and I propbably should have used it. For whatever reason...I just didn't. Your polite response is appreciated.

Thank you,
