Fuel tank sending unit

My fuel gauge is stuck on empty. I have taken sending unit out of tank and it reads proper resistance. Once returned to tank, it works for a few days and then back to empty. This has happened twice.

It appears that cork float gets saturated with gas and then sinks to empty position. Is this possible. Is there anything I can do to "gas proof" the cork so it floats.

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Fuel tank sending unit

Replace the sender. New ones have a plastic float that does not become saturated.
