Bought a used 1989 Skeeter SF175DF bass boat for $3000; not bad but had to repair numerous issues. Found out that the engine, a Merc 150 XR4, has inherent problem with its oil injection system. Apparently, Mercury installed a bushing on the drive shaft that allows oil to be injected into the cylinders; the mechanic I talked to said to disconnect the injection system from the engine, place a $4 plug into where the oil pump was, and start mixing the fuel and gas together as in the "old" days of 2 cycles. The mechanic has 20+ yrs of experience, so I do trust him. He did say, if that bushing goes out, you will blow the engine in 3 seconds.
Now, he said to mix a 50:1 ratio; no problem, except I don't know what size the tank is on this boat.
Anyone have the answer?
Thanks.
