Fuel tank vent location ?!?

1) I have a 18' cc. I am putting in a 'permanent' tank in the back of the boat under the 'washboard'. the kit that came with the tank has a 90 degree thru-hull vent that i need to mount.. but since the tank is NOT in the bilge and it simply fastened to the floor starboard side, do i need to run the vent through the hull? my battery is in a battery box on port side. I was at basspro over the weekend and was looking at their boats to see where the factory mounts them and there were no visible signs of a fuel vent. So i guess they are factory directed in a non-conspicuous location such as the blower fan vent. Any suggest for best location and which way it should face?

You may not be required to vent the tank, since it is above the deck, but is is a good idea to do so. Normally they are vented through the hull, fairly high above the waterline. The 90 degree fitting is usually inside the hull.

Now since your tank is in the rear, I would consider installing the fuel filler on the transom, 3/4 up to the top. The vent could also go there or out the side of the hull.

Wish i would have know about those 'combo' fillers before. Here's the fuel vent that i have:

I guess i'm not sure if it's gets mounting on top of the gunwhale vent-side to stern or coming out of the hull vent side down or vent side to stern. I guess they don't include instructions b/c your suppose to know how to install it.. makes me feel pretty dumb.

Pretty much wherever it will not be subjected to spray. And pointing downward so as not to pick up rainwater or hold water...
