It appears my fuel vent or possibly the hose is plugged. While filling the tank yesterday the fuel did not go out the vent but out the filler once full. I even doubt the tank was full.

Here's my question. How is thru hull tank vent attached to the vent hose in a typical installation? The replacement ones appear to be threaded. I do not have access to the backside of the hose where it attaches to the vent.

Re: Fuel Tank Vent

The ones i've seen are just a 5/8" hose that just slips on the vent and the nipple on the tank, I put heater hose clamps on them for added safty. As far as stock i have seen them with wire ties on them and i have seen them with no clamp at all. One way to check your vent is to take a air hose and rag have someone at the vent, and blow a little air in the tank don't try to overdo it if the vent is plugged and you just shoot 120 lbs of air in there the tank is going to go boom. if the air is comming out the vent it's not plugged.

Insects & spiders like to nest up in them. Usually its no big deal to clean them out.

To keep the mess out of the tank, I've blown a shop vac. down the fuel filler/gas cap, then poked around with a wire to dislodge the bug nest. As it comes apart, it blows out instead of into the tank.

Re: Fuel Tank Vent

If you can get to the tank just pull the vent hose off and blow air through it, that will stop anything getting back in the tank. :D

Re: Fuel Tank Vent

Bass Runner,
Thanks. I'll try that.

I cut the glass away from the inside to expose the backing nut. Come to find out my vent is a 90. Major PITA to replace. If I have to, I'll just put another vent right next to this one as I see no way of removing this one.
