Fuel tank. . . ?

I have a 89 bayliner capri bow rider with a 85hp force which if you treat it right is actually a good running little motor!

Ok heres my PROBLEM.. The boat has 21 gallon gas tank whick looks to be built in and looks almost impossible to remove. It needs to be cleaned out I'm finding lots of dirt and crud in the fuel filter. So has anyone come up with a good way to clean this style tank? if so PLEASE share.

Also the tank says 21gal but I can never seem to get more than 18 gallons in it when its completely empty (meaning not even enough fuel to fill the primer ball).

Your right there is no way to remove it unless you cut out the floor.As far as cleaning:tilt the bow up as far as you can then siphon all the gas out.Then remove the sending unit.Then get Dawn Or Joy soap(cuts the gas) and add 1/2 cup.Then start rinsing,it's gonna make a lot of suds so it will take time.
Once the suds stop hopefully all the gunk will be at the bottom edge of the tank.Then get an air vacume(hooked up to an air compressor)a regular vacume might make the gas fumes explode.Clean out the tank removing all the water,reinstall the fuel sender.
Or you can put in line 2 fuel filters.The 1st a sediment bowl filter for big debris
the 2nd a water sep fuel filter to stop any water and fine particulates.
As far as fuel capicity,I don't remember how much room was under the seats.
You can order a second tank that you can install there,put in a fuel valve so you don't have to change lines and you can probably double your capacity.Jerry
